2012 elections

Promoting electoral rights and responsibilities in the run-up to the 2012 national elections, as well as post-election community dialogue.

The participation of citizens in electing their leaders in elections that are free, fair and credible is critical for the long term security and development of Sierra Leone.

Through our partners, ENCISS seeks to promote the understanding of electoral rights and responsibilities, especially among marginalised communities. Examples of supported work in the run up to the 2012 national elections might include community discussion forums and radio programmes that focus on voters’ rights and the election process.

Post-election, community dialogue sessions could help to provide a space to resolve potential conflicts which, if not addressed, could erupt into violence. ENCISS is keen to see election observation integrated into ongoing democracy initiatives. In addition, we seek to prioritise messaging about electoral rights and responsibilities in other ENCISS-supported projects and activities.
