FAQs

Answers to frequently answered questions (FAQs) about ENCISS and the grant application process.

What types of grants are available?

In the second call, there are two types of grant awards available: project and micro-project.

Project grants are targeted primarily at programmes or projects working working nationally through coalitions and networks, or individual organisations work in one or more districts.

Micro-project grants support local community activities and projects including those run by grass-roots organisations, district councils, community-based organisations, and ward development committees.

ENCISS awarded 15 strategic grants in 2011. Strategic grants are for established national CSOs, government agencies, networks and coalitions with a proven track record of policy engagement. ENCISS has no further plans to award strategic grants.

During it lifetime, ENICSS will fund a total of 130 micro-project, 40 project and 15 strategic grants.

How do I find out if our organisation is eligible to apply for a grant?

Is the grant application process still open?

For announcements and updates on the latest calls for applications, visit the grants timetable page of this website.

How should organisations apply for grants? How are applications processed?

Organisations interested in applying for a grant, submit an expression of interest form. All expression of interest forms are reviewed and approved by the ENCISS team according to the eligibility criteria. Shortlisted organisations are invited to submit a detailed proposal which is evaluated by the grants sub-committee before going to the programme board for approval.

Please visit grant process for more information.

How can I be sure that application will be treated fairly?

ENCISS is committed to transparency throughout its programme and to treating all applications fairly.

The grants sub-committee accesses full proposals, according to the criteria set by the programme board. The committee submits its funding recommendations to the programme board for approval. The board and committee's members include state and non-state representatives, DFID, EU and governance experts.

Any efforts to approach or influence any member of the ENCISS team, grants sub-committee or the programme board, or the submission of false information will lead to the rejection of the expression of interest/proposal.

Is there a preference for faith-based organisations?

No. ENCISS will support any organisation that meets the eligibility criteria, irrespective of faith, gender, ethnicity or HIV status.

When will I find out if our application has been successful or not?

The grants timetable page of this website gives an indication of when you can expect to hear whether your application has been successful. Please revisit regularly as the timetable may be subject to changes. All shortlisted applications will be contacted directly and invited to submit a proposal.

Can we receive feedback if our expression of interest or proposal is unsuccessful?

Yes. ENCISS will provide feedback if a proposal is unsuccessful. CSOs can also contact the ENCISS office and the programme team will provide feedback on why the proposal was unsuccessful.

Will you make public the list of organisations receiving ENCISS funding?

Yes. ENCISS will publish the list of grantees at www.enciss-sl.org

Is ENCISS an NGO?
