Grant call launch event

ENCISS invites applications for grant funding to support and strengthen the relationship between citizens and the state

27 January 2012

The ENCISS programme has launched its second call for applications for grant awards. Interested civil society organisations, coalitions, networks and government agencies are invited to submit an expression of interest form by the 21 February 2012 deadline.

The invitation for applications was launched at an event today at the British Council attended by representatives from civil society, government and the media.

Speaking at the launch event, Kabba Frankkyn Bangura said “Today marks an exciting new chapter in the ENCISS programme and I hope that this grant support will mark a new chapter in the lives of thousands of poor families across Sierra Leone. Through our combined energies, these projects and programmes can become beacons of hope, making rights and entitlements a reality for thousands of Sierra Leone’s poorest families”

Speaking on behalf of ENCISS, Jeanne Kamara said “At the ENCISS programme, we have a vision to see an active and engaged civil society in Sierra Leone. Our grant and capacity building support is aimed strengthening civil society to articulate citizens’ demands and an effective state that is responsive and accountable to its citizens.”

There are two types of grant funding available in this grant call. Firstly, project grants to support work at a national level through coalitions and networks or for activities of individual organisations in a particular district or across a number of districts. Project grants typically run for 12 months.

The second type of grant funding available is for micro-projects. These grant awards support local, short-term activities at the ward or community level by grass roots, community based organisations, district councils or ward development committees. Micro-project grants typically support one-off activities that last for three to six months.

“We encourage applications for projects and programmes on one or more of the five ENCISS thematic areas: youth, local development, gender, 2012 elections, and justice and security,” continued Kamara.
