ENCISS electoral education forum promotes dialogue and democratic values

The ENCISS programme today held a policy dialogue forum on electoral education in the run up to the forthcoming presidential, parliamentary and chiefdom council elections which are scheduled to take place on the 17th November 2012.
The forum, held at the British Council Tower Hill, Freetown, brought together representatives from civil society, government and the media to discuss the importance of creating a peaceful climate for elections accepted by all Sierra Leoneans. .
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Abraham John, representative from the PPRC called on all political parties to put Mama Salone first and to be committed to a free, fair and transparent elections process elections,
Mr. Albert massaquoi, Information and Communications Boss, National Electoral Commission said in his speech that it has been necessary for the PPRC, political parties and their candidates, and the police to devise a campaign schedule that would allow each political party to have their own specific time and space. He urged political party leaders to respect these schedules.
The Christian Aid-ENCISS Manager said “Promoting electoral rights and responsibilities in the run-up to the 2012 national elections, as well as post-election community dialogue is a critical role the ENCISS Programme is playing.
ENCISS seeks to support the election-related activities of civil society including domestic observation, civic and electoral education, participation of women and media awareness of its role in ensuring fair treatment of and universal access to information.
